Members
Hayden Miller, piano
Hayden Miller is a pianist from Houston, Texas. With repertoire ranging from Louis Couperin to Alexina Louie, he often travels beyond the canon of classical music, creating interdisciplinary experiences with visual artists, writers, actors, and dancers. He currently studies at the Royal Academy of Music with Mei-Ting Sun, where he is the recipient of the WH and George Myddleton Award.
He was a 2023 YoungArts winner, and received top prizes in the Oberlin Piano Competition and Houston International Music Competition. He recently made his debut in Italy at the Brancaleoni International Music Festival.
An avid collaborator, Hayden is currently a member of the Ediva Trio and has worked with Lucy Wang (Viano String Quartet), Ryan Martin Bradshaw, and Julia Hall. He has also music directed productions of Dreamgirls and Mamma Mia!
Hayden began his studies with Piper Ward, and later studied with Jennifer Hayghe. He has appeared in masterclasses with Stanislav Ioudenitch, Anne-Marie McDermott, Logan Skelton and Angela Cheng.
Agatha Parkin, violin
The violinist of The Ediva Trio, Agatha Parkin, is from Lincolnshire, England, where she gained much of her early performance experience in local concerts and festivals. She won the Open String Repertoire Trophy at the Grantham Music Festival three times by the age of twelve; gave her first solo recital at St Wulfram's, Grantham, when she was thirteen; and performed Vaughan Williams' 'The Lark Ascending' there when she was sixteen.
When she was ten, Agatha was leader and soloist for a group of young musicians who performed a Vivaldi concerto with Nicola Benedetti before a near-capacity audience at Leeds Town Hall. She has given two pre-concert performances at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, as well as a lunchtime recital at Nottingham Theatre Royal in 2023, which drew an audience of over two hundred people.
Agatha began her studies at the age of four, with local teacher Laura Gardiner, before working for a year with Cynthia Fleming, former leader of the BBC Concert Orchestra. Then, at the age of twelve, she became a private student of Rodney Friend, former leader of the London Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and BBC Symphony orchestras. In 2023, she was awarded a major scholarship by the Royal Academy of Music, where she continues her studies with Prof. Friend.
Tianao Pan, cello
Tianao Pan started playing the piano at the age of three, and the cello at age of seven. Two years later, he was admitted into the Special School for Young Musicians at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. In 2016, he progressed to the Beijing Central Conservatory Middle School and studied there for two years. From 2017 to 2018, Tianao was the vice principal cellist of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra. He was also the principal cellist of the Chinese Youth Orchestra.
Subsequently, he has studied at The Purcell School, The Juilliard School, and the New England Conservatory, where he held the Presidential Distinction Award. He has been an invited soloist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and Beijing Symphony Orchestra. Now at the Royal Academy of Music, he studies with Josephine Knight.
Why 'Ediva'?
Having met at The Royal Academy of Music in Marylebone, London, we hoped to find a name with a strong connection to that area.
A thousand years ago, at the time of the Domesday Book, one of the two manors which later formed the parish of Marylebone was held by an Anglo-Saxon woman called, in the Latin records, Ediva.
